Tag: Biomarkers
Next-generation sequencing panel. Test used to analyze multiple genes associated with cancer by sequencing.
Any change in a gene, resulting in a variant form. This can be caused by changes in single base units in DNA, or the deletion, insertion, or rearrangement of larger sections of genes or chromosomes.
Microsatellite stable. No changes are found in microsatellite length.
Microsatellite instability. Changes found in microsatellite length.
Mismatch repair. Your cells’ way of proofreading DNA.
Microsatellites
Short repeated sequences in DNA.
Lynch syndrome
Inherited mutations in genes that affect DNA mismatch repair, a process that fixes mistakes made in DNA replication. Lynch syndrome is the most common cause of hereditary colorectal cancer.
Liquid biopsy
A test done on a blood sample to look for cancer cells or pieces of tumor cell DNA circulating in the blood.
Immunohistochemistry test. A test performed on cancer tissue removed during a biopsy. The test is used to show whether or not cancer cells have specific proteins expressed.
