The length of time after primary treatment that a patient survives without any signs or symptoms of that cancer. In a clinical trial, measuring the DFS is one way to see how well a new treatment works. In study results, this value is reported as the median amount of time participants experienced DFS. Also known as relapse-free survival (RFS).
